Ages Untold places more than 53,000 historical figures from China and the world on one timeline. China is covered from pre-Qin times through the Republic; the world section includes ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt, Byzantium, the Ottoman Empire, Joseon, the Edo Shogunate, and other major states. Scroll through lives, open a person for the full entry, and explore 200 historical events and the Undercover party game.

Names, dates, offices, and family relationships come from Wikidata open data (CC0). Historical events are written by hand. Historical portraits come from Wikimedia Commons, and character illustrations are AI impressions. Historical sources contain gaps and contradictions; we present them as recorded without literary reconstruction.
Birth years for many ancient figures were never recorded. When dates are unknown, the timeline uses an estimated anchor for the relevant period and marks the value as an estimate, not an exact year.
No. The curve and density reflect how much historical record survives. Periods with more surviving records naturally look denser. This is not a population count and does not show who mattered more.
No. The consistent illustrations in the card feed are AI-generated impressions. Detail pages may also show a historical portrait from Wikimedia Commons, such as an engraving, painting, or photograph. Illustrations in the app and on share images are labelled “AI illustration · not a historical portrait”.
China is covered from the Zhou through the Republic of China. The world section covers major pre-modern states. Modern and contemporary Western figures and modern Chinese figures are intentionally outside the current scope.
The app checks for updated data after launch. It downloads automatically on Wi-Fi and asks first on mobile data; you can skip an update, and the app remembers that one skipped version. Version details and a manual check are in Settings → Data update.
On the official Android build, use Settings → About to check for updates and download the APK; the system must allow installation from that source. Google Play, iOS, iPadOS, and macOS builds update through their respective stores.
In your system photo library. On Android 10 and later they are saved under Pictures/Ages Untold: Chronicles of Lives; older versions use the app's picture folder. Files are named “person-QID”, so people with the same name do not overwrite one another.
The English interface currently offers Undercover: deal cards from figures of the same era and side, then play together on one phone. The Chinese-only Guess Who word game is not shown in the English interface.
No. Relationships in the source data are directional, and the app converts them for display. For example, Cao Song → Cao Cao is shown as a father–son relationship, not the reverse.
Portrait packs are one-time purchases, not subscriptions. On iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Google Play, tap Restore Purchases with the same store account. For the official Android build, purchases are bound to the original device; changing devices, resetting the phone, or flashing the system requires manual restoration. Email us the merchant order number from the Alipay or WeChat receipt and the device number shown in the app, and we will verify and restore the entitlement. Uninstalling and reinstalling normally preserves the purchase.
Apple purchases: use Apple's Report a Problem page. Google Play purchases: use Google Play's refund process. Direct Android purchases: email us with the Alipay or WeChat merchant order number; we will refund through the original payment channel, and the corresponding portrait unlock will be revoked.
